BURGESS PARK, LONDON
Burgess Park now occupies the site of the Surrey Canal, a one-time link between South London and the Thames Docks. When the canal-side industries moved away the canal became a fun but dangerous place to play. In 1971, two young brothers perished here whilst larking about. Their father, unable to accept their deaths, took his own life a year later. His ghost has been seen many times, walking the site of the canal searching for his boys.
